Shell Art and Sea Treasures . . . I have a deep love for the ocean- you see it in my photography and is a common thread in my poetry. I have traveled to beaches worldwide collecting shells. In the 1980's my line of "EarthSea" jewelry featured brooches and earrings. The pieces were made from shells with sprinkles of raw gems and minerals. Shells used were irregular, broken shells smoothed from the waves. The collection at that time was exclusively sold at The Butler Institute of American Art gift shop in Youngstown, Ohio. Years passed, new creations emerged and became established.
The current line of shell art includes shell topiary trees- they are mosaic and sculptural. They range in size from 8" to 5 feet for a dramatic interior statement. Additionally, you will find embellished wreaths and small pieces of furniture encrusted by the ocean's jewels. Today's seashell jewelry is an extension of the original collection- bracelets, necklaces and brooches.
When you purchase any of my pieces of shell art forms you are purchasing an extension of a wonderful day at the beach- a piece of art adorned with the beauty of nature.
Hang this lovely shell wreath on the door, a wall. Or~ place a battery powered candle on a plate using the wreath as a candle ring. The shells are carefully placed according to shape and color on each piece.
Shells are also applied to small, functional pieces as this shelf and tray..... It is all about details applied to art forms~A clay pot is encircled with shells, a topiary with a beaded "necklace" encircles the pot's rim.
